Today has been a productive day! This morning I ran a second wood carving workshop for the 'Meadows Trees' project at the Meadows Art Gallery. Then this afternoon I was working on the Jubilee House commission, and it's starting to feel like I'm getting somewhere! Last weekend I went to Ingrid Pears' Hot Glass Studio and made some glass pieces to wrap around the sculpture. Alright, mostly Ingrid made the glass, but I did have a go at adding colour and I did some of the shaping of a solid lump of glass into a rather beautiful cone. I even blew a little bit. I'm not good at glass blowing! I was putting in a lot of effort but not a lot of air came out of the other end of the tube! The most exciting thing was watching Ingrid pour molten glass over the sand replica of the sculpture. Here's a picture of some the pieces:
and now the sculpture is drying out by the radiator, hopefully starting to split soon so that I can work out how to put this jigsaw puzzle together.
