At the moment I am working on a small group of sculptures that will sit together on a wooden base.  I'm taking a break from the large piece of Ancaster Weatherbed limestone that I've been working on for what seems like years (might actually be years!).  I'm really enjoying seeing the progress day to day.

The group are a piece of Carrara marble that my parents brought back from a holiday to Italy, a piece of granite I picked up from a kitchen worktop makers and a piece of ebony given to me by a friend.

I've been inspired by some of the small groups of marble sculptures I've seen at the Hepworth in Wakefield.

Today I have been hanging some drawings and prints on the wall of my studio ready for the exhibition which starts on Tuesday.  I only have one more plinth to pick up from the joiners and then it'll be ready.

I have been moving things around in my studio.  I have set up this table of maquettes and test pieces.

In January 2017 I started work on a stone carving.  This is a short video of splitting one large piece of Ancaster Weatherbed limestone into two smaller pieces using plugs and feathers .... and a lump hammer.

Near the studio today there's a small yapper-type dog who thinks we're doing call and response, it goes like this:

bark bark bark

Every now and then I can hear someone shout "stop it!" I choose to believe they're talking to the dog.

I started making this oak sculpture in July 2011 at Sculpture in the Sanctuary, if you visited the exhibition you might have seen me working on it.  I'm finishing the sculpture for Carnival of Monsters in Beeston this October.
